How to Join

To Join

Please read the following SMAT Member Operating Guidelines for more information about being a member.  Joining is a very simple process.  To begin, fill out a Triad SMAT II 500 Application Packet  and email it to the Team Leader, Karlee McQuillen, at kmcquill@wakehealth.edu.

Our warehouse and training center is at 315 Bethel Church Rd in Mocksville, NC 27028.  We meet on the last Thursday of every even month from 7PM to 10PM.  Our meetings are held in February, April, June, August, October, and December.

Membership Requirements by level

We currently maintain two roster levels – Active Responders and Reserve Responders.

Active Responders – those members who have met the minimum training requirements, have employer approval, and are capable of/interested in deploying outside of the local area for at least 72 hours.

  • Complete the SMAT Initial Training Program (required for deployment)
  • Complete the FEMA ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 courses
  • Provide 10 hours of participation a year (3 meetings, training, work sessions, events, deployments, etc)
  • Actively respond to team communications.

Reserve Responders – those members who are interested in participating in local events or activities, but are not interested in or capable of deploying on longer missions outside the local area. These members minimum training requirements that are less then Active Members.

  • Complete the FEMA ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 courses
  • Provide 6 hours of participation a year (2 meetings, training, work sessions, events, deployments, etc)
  • Actively respond to team communications.
  • Completion of the SMAT Initial Training Program is recommended but not required.
